Young was a poor lad earning money for college by working at an oil parts firm in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He relocated to Los Angeles after graduating from college, where his first employment was as a runner on the Chevy Chase talk show. At the conclusion of this program, when he was having trouble finding employment, his father put him in touch with his former coworker Joel Schumacher.
