The congenital cardiac condition hypertrophic cardiomyopathy affects Willie, Sydney McLaughlin’s father. The cardiac issue is brought on by abnormal genes that cause the heart muscles to thicken. Despite having a condition, he kept on jogging and pursuing his objectives.

Willie’s cardiac condition began to sadly deteriorate over time. He was taking too many pills, and as a consequence, his heart stopped beating. Thankfully, he had a heart transplant in February 2021 and is no longer in danger. Willie Mclaughlin, however, was unable to accompany his daughter to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics to support her.
